On July 29, the Visit Korea Committee (chaired by Park Sam-koo) held a press conference at the Foreign Press Center Korea for reporters from overseas media. The press conference aimed to introduce the “2016–2018 Visit Korea Year” campaign and its programs conducted in line with the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The attendees were 14 reporters from 8 nations including Mongolia, Austria, Czech, and Peru who had visited South Korea at the invitation of the Korean Culture and Information Service. The conference on the 29th introduced the committee’s programs for the convenience of foreign tourists, such as the KOREA TOUR CARD and the Korea Grand Sale, and the 2nd year’s initiatives for the 2016–2018 Visit Korea Year focused on the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics. The conference proceeded with a Q&A session and interviews; the reporters expressed their interest by asking questions about the programs and campaigns associated with the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Having arrived in South Korea on the 27th, the reporters collected news materials regarding the Seoul Plaza, MSIP Task Force Team for PyeongChang Olympics ICT Infrastructure, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and so forth. Until the end of their stay on September 2nd, they will continue visiting remarkable organizations, including the Visit Korea Committee, Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, DMZ, and Alpensia Ski Jumping Center, for their coverage of the current preparation status for the PyeongChang Olympics.

Visit Korea Committee General-Secretary Han Kyung-ah said that she “wishes for the reporters’ interest shown for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games and Korea tours to lead to actual visits to Korea, and plans to use conferences and the committee members’ overseas network channels to promote its programs for the PyeongChang Olympics and the 2016–2018 Visit Korea Year.”

Previously foreign journalists engaged in producing special documentaries about South Korea and correspondents from major foreign news agencies were also invited to other press conferences co-hosted in May and July by the Visit Korea Committee and the Korean Culture and Information Service. The attendees were from Brazil, Turkey, Vietnam, Indonesia, and many other countries.

Meanwhile, the committee is operating the 2016–2018 Visit Korea Year campaign through the expansion of private participation and, as a public-private partnership organization, furthering promotional marketing for the campaign based on its business cooperation network of 30 member corporations including airlines, hotels, and banks.
