“Come to Korea and Enjoy All-in-One Festivals for Shopping, Culture, and Tours!”

- Around 70 travel agencies and some local media companies informed about Korea’s all-in-one festivals for shopping, culture, and tours

- Taiwanese enthused by the KOREA TOUR CARD, an integrated card for transportation and tours exclusively available to foreign tourists

The Visit Korea Committee (chaired by Park Sam-Koo) held a business conference about Korean festivals that feature the three themes of shopping, culture, and tours on Thursday, June 8th for two hours from 6:30 pm at Okura Prestige Taipei. Co-hosted by the Korea Tourism Organization and Asiana Airline, this conference invited representatives from 70 travel agencies and some local media companies as well as other leading figures in the Taiwanese tourism industry, including the chairman of the Travel Agent Association of R.O.C. It was also attended by staff in charge of overseas marketing of some major participants in the all-in-one festivals—Lotte Department Store, Shinsegae Duty Free, and Hyundai Department Store—reflecting their great interest in the Taiwanese market.

The conference introduced Korea’s two mega festivals—one is the Korea Grand Sale, which is held annually from January to February and targeted at both local and foreign customers, and the other is the Korea Sale FESTA, which is held annually from September to October and targeted exclusively at foreigners staying in Korea. This year’s Korea Sale FESTA, taking place from September 28th to October 31 and thus coinciding with the Mid-Autumn Festival and other holidays in Greater China and Korea’s festive season, plans to offer various enjoyable activities, in addition to shopping. The conference also presented convenient services designed to attract free independent traveler from Taiwan and other countries worldwide, receiving enthusiastic responses among the attendees. In particular, the KOREA TOUR CARD launched in January drew the greatest attention from Taiwanese travel agencies and media companies. They were especially excited that this single card gives access to every form of transportation, including buses, subways, and taxis, and is affiliated with over 100 companies that offer special benefits. The Hands-Free Service also attracted interest, which stores or delivers purchased goods to the airport or directly to customers’ home abroad.

Meanwhile, representatives from Korean department stores and duty free shops explained their offers for foreign tourists in an effort to attract Taiwanese visitors to Korea. Even after the conference ended, consultations continued between Korean tour planners from local Taiwanese agencies and representatives from Korean participants in the festivals. They discussed collaborative promotion and promised cooperation with each other.

“A majority of Taiwanese tourists are women in their 20s through 40s, which matches the key target of our all-in-one festive events” remarked Visit Korea Committee Secretary-General Han Kyung-ah. “I wish this conference could serve as a catalyst to further invigorate tourism exchanges between Korea and Taiwan. Under the campaign of the 2016–2018 Visit Korea Year, the committee will push forward with promotional marketing that helps diversify the tourism market and attract more visitors,” she added.

The Visit Korea Committee plans to continue promote the all-in-one festivals and the KOREA TOUR CARD by holding road shows in such large markets as China, Japan, Vietnam, and Indonesia from where a large number of visitors come to Korea.
